Richland One’s After-School Program at EdVenture Receives
Double Honors

Club EdVenture, Richland One’s after-school program operated by EdVenture Children’s Museum, recently received double honors including a sizeable monetary donation and an international award.

Verizon donated $4,500 to Club EdVenture to help with program expenses and resources for 80 students who travel to the museum during the week to engage in academic and artistic activities.

EdVenture also recently received the Roy L. Shafer Leading Edge Award in recognition of its after-school initiatives. The award is bestowed by the Association of Science-Technology Centers to honor outstanding programs that meet critical community needs and serve diverse populations. Richland One’s Club EdVenture was cited as one of the exemplary after-school programs operated by the museum. The Association of Science-Technology Centers is an organization comprised of more than 440 science centers and museums in 44 countries dedicated to increasing public understanding of science among diverse audiences. EdVenture was singled out as a leader in after-school issues.

"Richland One is grateful for the support the business and academic community provide to our efforts to create safe, exciting and intellectually challenging after-school programs for our students," said Dr. Traci Young Cooper, Richland One’s director of extended-day programs. "We also would like to congratulate and thank Richland One’s after-school partners like EdVenture for their commitment, hard work and dedication to excellence."
